Reviewed "Wings Of Joy" for my college rah-dio station WUSC 90.5 on the FM
dial. Loved it and was hooked. The new album is good, but I think "Loved"
hit me sooner and quicker than "Population Four" did. I've grown to dig the
album. Cool track with Jim singing.

A few weeks ago I saw the Cranes play in Boston. It was the first time I've seen them live although I've worshipped them for years. Jim and Alison came out and started "Tangled Up", but when they got to the chorus Jim forgot to do the change. They started over, and the same thing happened, and they gave up. Alison and Jim were clearly embarrassed, and so was the audience. Some people grumbled, others shouted encouragement. I may be crazy, but I thought it was one of the COOLEST things I've ever seen. I go to see my favorite band for the first time, and they totally fuck up the first song. That's just so real. So naked. So human. Does that make any sense? Alison and Jim, maybe that's a show you'd rather forget (and later your DAT machine broke but you still sounded fantastic). But I'm 37 and have been working in local music for years. I've seen a LOT of bad gigs, but despite everything that went wrong that night it was one of the two or three most enjoyable shows I have ever seen. So don't feel bad on my account. Thanks for some of the most gorgeous music I've ever experienced!
And that's my Cranes story.

and thought the cover looked cool so i bought it... and boy was i in heaven. ever since then i buy cd's if i
just happen to like the looks or have a good feeling about it, usually turns out great. over the course
of just a few years after that i managed to get several of my friends enamored of them, though none are really too
crazy bout them. y?!?!!?! ah dunno!!! there's a lot of weirdos out there... hm! well sorry for all the digression...

Ok, I'm a very recent Cranes fan. I recently discovered them one night as I was dancing at a club on Goth/ Industrial night. It was just a typical night, they were playing songs I knew and everyone was dancing along when all of a sudden Shining Road came on. I had never heard it before but as soon as it started I was filled with this sense of overwhelming emotion. It was freaky!! It was like some sort of spiritual experience that only certain powerful things can trigger. After the song was over I had to go up to the DJ and then demanded he tell me what that last song was.
I've been obsessed ever since. I still haven't heard a lot of the Cranes stuff but I will!! I am now a fan forever!

I got into the Cranes because of my association with being a huge Cure fan
(my phone # is 753 CURE!) So my friend put pale blue sky on a mixed tape he
made for me last winter, and I was forever hooked on the Cranes. If I wasn't
such a Cure FANatic,The Cranes would be my absolute favorite. As of now, they
are very close to tying with the Cure as my favorite, but who sais I can't have
two favorites ? I BABBLE too much. Anyway, I had the privilege of seeing and
hearing them at the Starfish room in Vancouver and there's no doubt in my mind
that these guys are truly LOVED by all of their fans, especially me! How could
anyone NOT love them ? I got to meet them that night, and how sincere and gracious
was Ali ? Jim was very friendly and co-operative, but seemed tired, Mark really
topped off my evening! He talked to my friends and I for about 1/2 an hour, and
told me a story about toothfairies and doormats I bet he tells that to all of the
(blue haired) girls! One detail I really liked was the way he did his nail polish
Black base with a pink spiral on each nail! I do that to, and I thought that was
very creative. (usualy, I just do polka- dots.) Any way, I think they are Musical
geniuses gifted with the ability to seem heavan sent and hellbent all at once.

I knew about Cranes when a girl gave me a ride home . She was listening it .
I ask about it and she gave it to me . Every time I hear them , it causes a
peaceful joy in my mind . But listen up US. , Canadians and Europeans
citizens , don't think the we don't know anything about music , maybe we know
more than some of you . why don't give Cranes and other groups a chance to
visit Latin America . We also like phsychological , dark , doom , light ,
rave , death , black , trance , alternative , classic and all those branches of
music . I like any kind of music , if you want to e-mail me , do it , I will
answer you back

I first heard the Cranes in 1992, I think, with the Wings of Joy album, and
I heard they were playing on the Black Easter Festival, together with
Collection d'Arnell Andrea, Senseless Things and some other bands
They were Top of the Bill, and I really enjoyed the concert.
At that time, they had some weird film/video-projections behind the band.
Since that concert, I went to see them anytime they were playing within a
reasonable distance, and I'm surely going to see them for the 8th time in
June, when they come to Belgium
I think the last album is as good as all the other ones, it just depends on
my mood which album I put in the cd player
I thought it was a very nice x-mas present from the cranes to give the first
500 people that came to there last Brussels concert (8/12/96) a free 3-track
cd with two songs of the new album and a lennon-cover
I really enjoyed it.

It was on the Cure tip that I got into the Cranes, like so many others.
I was recently transplanted from Chicago where I followed them every time
they played the Metro. I went to the Forever tour where I met Mark and he
took a picture of us (me and a couple of Morrissey fanatics) which I don't
know if they even developed!!! I then started writing letters to them and
they actually wrote back by hand on postcards. I was thrilled! Once Loved
came out, I went to see them on a freezing cold February night at the Metro.
I had the flu and was reeling with plenty of cough drops on hand and managed
to push my way to front and center. Alison was coughing too so I gave her
one of the cough drops!!! After that, communication deteriorated. I no
longer recieved personal replies to my letters (that's cool, can't have
everything! :) ) and then I moved to Burbank to work at the job I've always
wanted. Since then I have still been following them religiously but am not
even sure I'm still on the club list, as I was never notified of any tour
dates. However, I happened to find out a week before the show that they'd
be coming to L.A., so I went. Through a friend at work (hello Dean!) I was
introduced to Alison after the show at the Roxy and she seemed like an old
friend!!!Surely she did not remember me from the last two shows in Chicago,
but that's understandable! Well Alison, I'm sorry I missed you when Dean
brought you around to my desk, but I hope I will see you when you come back
this summer???? I'll make a drawing for you! If you like the Cure,And Also
The Trees,Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance and have any similar music tips,
please write me (this isn't my computer!!!) at: Jill Friemark, 2100
Riverside Drive, Burbank,CA 91502. Or call at (818)560-9671. Thanks to the
Cranes for EVERYTHING. My favorite album is FOREVER.

it seems like i've been in love w/cranes' music as long as i've been alive. just been
searching for them without really knowing it. lucked out into getting a press-release copy
of wings of joy back in late 91 i think... saw them live once w/belly in nyc, and
was even more in love than before. their music -- well, specifically wings of joy, the others
not so much -- move me to tears, without fail.

I got into The Cranes way back in 1991, when they toured with The Cure. I have seen them play live a total of three times, including just recently on april 5th, when they played in San Fransisco. It's always a great experience to see them live! Some of the other bands that I'm into are Slowdive, Cocteau Twins(another great band to see live!), My Bloody Valentine, Ivy, Sundays, Lush, An April March. It's hard to find other people who are into to the same type of music, so if theres anyone out there who would like to talk about The cranes or any of the other bands that I mentioned, don't be shy, please feel free to E-mail me, and lets talk!
