Hey all. I figured I better sign the guest book since I've been blabbering about on the WWW Fan Bulletin Board

Ali, Jim, all, thanks for the years of awesome music. It's strange. I've been playing (Guitar / Bass, (Badly by the way, LOL) on my own for about over 15 years. When I first heard you back in 92' on the Wish Tour, my hair stood up on the back of my neck.

The music expressed EXACTLY what I had been trying to get out of me for years. The emotive PUSH. To me, sometimes a beauty that was attempting to sing in a erthreal honest SELF-dialouge, instead of trying to sing it outwardly to the world. At least, that's me, and what I wanted to express with what I composed for all these years. When I hear you're music - BAM - for me, it nails that expression down perfectly. Simply amazing.

It was like when you're trying to get out the right word in a sentence or a phrase, and you just can't come up with it. And your friend next to you is providing all of the right words, and is the perfect Thesaurus.

Thanks for the CD's, the Music, the Shows I've see you at, taking some time to talk to this weird guy standing around, 8^), the Performances, and look forward to seeing you at the Magic Stick here in Detroit on 5/2/2002. Take good care of yourselves guys and gal. 8^)

I've been trying to find some info on the new album but its so hard, especially living in Denver! I became familiar with the Cranes in the early 90's when I heard Shinging Road on the movie, "Eye for an Eye." The song caught my ear and I fell in love with the song and wanted more. So I would rewind that part of the video everytime I saw it just to hear it and see that small clip of the music video. I have been e-mailing MTV and telling them to publicize the Cranes and other artist that have been neglected. Apparently they took my advise about Ms. Minogue but the Cranes are out of this world and original! They are my favorite band, they sing my favorite song, and I have downloaded any songs of their's that I could find. I am so happy that the Cranes are making a U.S. Tour and they are coming to Denver, all you Colorado fans on May 6, 2002!!! E-mail me back any fan of the Cranes, especially those in Denver and I'm hoping people are "making plans you know" to go to the Cranes concert!

Ive only recently got into the band. I discovered the bands name in a book about the Welsh punk/goth band Manic Street Preachers and as im such a fan of the Manics i went out and bought wings of joy after many many many many hours of searching and quite frankly ive never heard anything like it well with the exception of Joy Division ive never heard such a raw emotion in songs before. What can i say except do a british tour now!

i first found out about the very addictive sound of cranes by mishap. i was visiting a friend and was told to put a disc in her cd player. i ended up inserting the wrong one and much to my surprise this wonderfully magical music began pouring forth from the speakers. "loved" it was. and indeed i did! i was quite honestly amazed at the emotions it evoked. i now own all of the albums. the singles are hard to come by but i'm actively seeking them.i'm sooooooooooooo happy to find a new album on the verge of release. i always go to the cranes section of record stores just in case. the music reminds me of the joy and again, magic of childhood. and the still possible magic of adulthood. i can't thank you guys enough. I have had the chance to attend only one of your concerts. I would have loved to see you the first time you came to Mexico with the Cure. Now, I understand you are having a USA tour, but would it be so difficult for you guys to add just one (one!) single concert for your Mexican fans???!!! It is easier for you to come down than to cross the whole Atlantic Ocean!!! So why don't you take advantage of this opportunity!! It hasn't been that long since the last concert, but if you came every year, we would for sure be there... Please, take it under consideration. Hoping to see you soon,

Well, it's been more than 11 years since I first heard the Cranes magical music, and a lot of water under the bridge since then - for you as much as me I imagine . . .

Favourite songs too numerous to mention - Starblood and Adoration don't come much better, and the first EP (whose name I forget) was fantastic. I also liked the whole of Self Not Self (especially after a couple of drinks).

Accidentally finding out that you guys are on the web is a real pleasant surprise, and a nice opportunity to get . I'd love to see you live again, since the last time I saw you was at the Cambridge Junction in 1991 - a long time ago for us both.

Kind regards, Anthony

I was doing a search on I think and ran across them. I like the haunting voice she has; for god sakes throw in Johnny Marr and some Dead Can Dance and you have heaven. But I'll stick around for heaven on Earth. I don't like all the songs at all. But the ones I do like (trumpet song, Jewel!!!!) bring emotions to the surface that make my skin crawl and my eyes water. Great stuff...come to San Francisco soon

I´ve been a Cranes fan for many years now. Since wings of Joy came out. Shortly after that I discovered Self non Self. I saw them on their first ever US gig at Limelight in NY and was blown away. A few years later, I contacted their Manager during a Slowdive concert in Toronto to see if they would like to go to Mexico City to shoot a video and maybe play some shows down there. To cut along story short, a year later during the Loved tour, they came to Mexico city and played two fantastic gigs and I also got the chance to direct a Music Video for Beautiful Friend.
Anyway, my dear Alison or Jim, if by any chance you should be reading this, don´t hesitate to contact me if you´re looking for a video director for your new album, because I would love to work with you guys again. If you want to see some of my latest work go to and click under directors reels and there you will find me.
Keep in touch

hello cranes! season's greetings from the grey&wet westcoast of canada!
i just wanted to let you know that the local indie record shop, ZULU Records, is celebrating its 20th year in business and is holding a very unique contest of sorts: it has selected one record that defined each of the last 20 years and has posted the list at the store for everyone to see and critique. ZULU has invited everyone to submit their own list of "20 faves of the past 20 years", and to pin it up on the bulletin board at the store. i selected cranes' "wings of joy" as my pick for 1991, and the text i wrote to accompany that year's top recording reads: "a british band that boldly charted its own musical course in the 90's. this stunning album is the distillation of their obvious influences: joy division, swans, the birthday party. alternately sad, angry, hopeful, and quite frightening --the sound of a 10-year old girl trapped in the attic." i hope the entry is read by folks who may have missed out on your thrilling musical landscapes in the last decade and inspires them to pick up one of the recordings to discover the magic of your music.
cheers, all the best in the new year! hope to see you again in vancouver in 2002!

I first heard the cranes three years ago on an old cassette given to me by a comlete stranger. They have the most unique sound I have heard in my life and I can never seem to overplay any of their albums. They are one of the few bands that has truly altered my life emotionally and socially. I can't wait for the new album and I hope one day I get to see them live.

Hi guys.

Just wanted to say how impressed I am by your latest album, "Future Songs". A truly awesome record, and easily your best so far (even though "Forever" and "Wings Of Joy" are very special in their own way, too). "Future Songs" holds the finest melodies and every song stands out as very strong. I will be adding you to my "Fave music" section on my website soon, so take a look when you get time.

Have a great Christmas.
