well unlike most others who got into the cranes during the 1992 cure wish tour, i was a late bloomer.
i wasn't so lucky as to have the money to go to concerts then, and at that time, the cure was only a fantasy to me
since i couldn't even afford to buy music of my own. but in 1995, a girl who *had* been to the 1992 cure wish tour was
a major proponent in my discovering the most wonderous band in existence. she played wings of joy for me once,
but i didn't really hear it. then i was with a friend who owned a tiny little gothic record shop below the street downtown in our little village,
she had three singles in her store - adoration, tomorrow's tears and jewel. all on cd. i had no cd player, but i recognized the name of the band.
so i had her play the singles for me, but it meant nothing - the very first note of tomorrow's tears had me falling in love immediately.
not to mention when i heard the awe-inspiring voice of alison shaw. nothing could ever compare to that. so i bought all three of the cd's there on the spot,
much to the upset of another hardcore cranes fan who was planning to buy them the nee next day - they were rather hard to find cd's, even then.
i bought many more singles and albums at plastic passion in santa barbara, but when i returned to finish my collection, the store had closed.
so i am still looking foward to finding a good store or place somewhere in the world where i can finish buying all the cranes singles...

I won't be very original : I got into Cranes during the Wish Tour, 17th October 1992 in Lyon.
Alison's voice mesmerized me and I bought Forever as soon as I found it. It's "Clear", I think, that impressed me most.
Being a Cranes fan in France makes you look like an alien and I still know very few others. It's even almost hard to find Cranes stuff here, especially in my lost village :)
Hope to see you soon back around here !
Cheers and love.

Well, I got into Cranes because of my girlfriend. It has about two years when she lend me a tape with some of that delicius music. I loved it. Then, I told her, one night "how fantastic would be if we were listening Cranes". So, some days later, she bought me the EP Collection and then, I was nuts for her because of Cranes. So I owe Cranes for falling in love with Andrea. And so, I am fascinated with the idea of you in México City. I almost have to say that I've already bought the tickets. Isn't that so romantic? Isn't that so fucking exiting? I'm really glad to have you here. I like to wish you the best for your concerts and. Oh!, please if you read this stuff some day before your concert, well, I'm going to love you more if you send some birthday words during it for her. Why? Because Andrea's birthday is the 4th of March.
Well, I think that's all... thank you, for coming.

I first heard them when they opened for The Cure in 1992 here in Monterrey, Mexico;
a few months later I bought "wings of joy" and I fell in love. then "Forever" came out
and I liked it too but their best album was definitely "Loved". I didnt like Population 4,
it didnt sound like the cranes at all.
Anyway, I´m traveling to Mexico City to their gig at the Hard Rock and I hope I can
meet Ali & Jim and have a drink with them... I´m really looking forward to it!!!!!!

I was starting to think I was the only Cranes-fan in the universe before I found this
page. Cranes gives me inspiration to love, live and BE! I hope more people will learn to
appriciate such amazing music!
It is too bad it is so hard to get cd´s of the Cranes, but maybe thats why I like them
so much...
Coming to Norway soon?

Lots of love, Heidi!

i was at a bookstore in austin,tx, and started chatting to
paul about some books. he later told me of a show at
electric lounge (1997), so i went (even though i had to go
alone) b/c i was curious. was it worth it? hell yeah! the
music IS unique, despite some narrow-minded review i read
at this site earlier. i've never heard anything quite like
their mixes and voice; it's both cool and beautiful. i've
lost my cds, but cranes are still heard in my head. i miss
my pen pal, paul, though. if anyone sees him please tell
him, "hUllo!" for me! if anyone is willing- please update
me on wether or not cranes are planning to get some new
music out! all the albums are creative in their own ways,
and i'd love to hear what they'd offer next!

I was watching 120 minutes and the were showing the video for Tomorrow's Tears. That was just
before I saw them on The Cure-wish tour. I was instantly in love. I love the lyrics, and know
majority of them. I made a birthday wish in December to see them again in the year 2,000.
I hope that this comes true. I would like to know when their next albumn will be coming out.
Because I would assume that a tour would ensue.

I saw the Cranes during a summer festival some years ago. I was there to see the Cure
for my first time and I was completely ipnotized by the Cranes music. I never see them live
anymore, so I hope they'll play again in Italy some day.

Per i fun ITALIANI: io sono riuscita a trovare solo "Loved" e "Population 4" qui in
Italia. Voi sapete consigliarmi dove trovare gli altri CD? Io abito vicino a Milano.
Scrivetemi pure all'indirizzo di mail di sotto. Grazie

i was becoming a little too obsessed with THE CURE, when a friend over
the internet told me to listen to the CRANES, he thought the sounds were
very similar, i don't know if i agree, but i adore the music, and thank him
soooo much for introducing me to a band that is beautiful
i remember when i was lost in paris, a few years ago, the only thing that
gave me any kind of comfort was listening to PARIS AND ROME whenever i heard
the soft taps in the introduction, i would calm down, i knew i would find
my way...i guess i did

i feel as though i'm in a far away land, maybe heaven , when i turn on the cranes and listen to alison's mystical voice, and i tend to drift off into my own little world of thoughts and fairytales. i love the titled album "loved" and "forever" the most. To any out there who would love to correspond, please email me i would be reluctant to respond very soon. untill then take care.

The Cranes have been quite an inspiration to much of my work over the years, whether it be my music, and/or my art... The Cranes, sonically and spiritually, are relative to something that is inside of me... Jim creates the backdrop of mood, to feed Alison's passionate searching... Their style and niche, connecting with the lost child that is still eternally in me...

one of the greatest joys of my life is listening to the most beautiful musical group in the world, CRANES! i enjoy all of their material. they suit any feeling. CRANES take me to a golden realm. i feel as if i am flying in a night of cascading stars when i listen to wings of joy, dwelling in peace in an enchanted forest when listening to forever, dancing in medieval settings like in plays and literature when listening to loved, dancing with nymphs when listening to les mouches, floating on clouds when listening to population 4. oh, i forgot self-non-self, it makes me happy standing on a cliff on a dark night. i cannot wait for their new album! i have never seen them perform. but i shall, and 'twould be one of the most magical nights of my life!
i wish to know more cranes fans! methinks there are not many in wretched san diego. looking for intelligent souls, and anyone who appreciates the cranes is indeed quite intelligent! cranes make me forever joyful! "a thing of beauty is a joy forever." (i am enamored of cranes and john keats!)

I got into Cranes when they arrived to Monterrey with The Cure. I had to escaped jumping into the stage, right by Allyson's side. She had this middle age dark look, kind of a whitch casttig her spell... and her snakes began to flow as the wind blowed her hair.Cranes will always be more than a drug to me. But, I just can´t understand Population Four. I hope they can return to their rotts, but with an evolution.

I saw Cranes first time in Helsinki with the Cure tour. It was one of the firs times when I was alone in Helsinki and I was thrilled by almost everything I saw; people, city, everything. Then I remember that the lights went out and Cranes started to play. I just cried... Next day, when I went back to home (to this very, very small village..You don´t want to know.) everyone thought that I`m out of my mind. Maybe I was... =)

I first came accross the cranes when a guy on the local cable access station played a video of tomorrow's tears (there's a great idea; an anthology of all the videos you've ever done, i'd buy it!!), Wings of Joy is my favorite album I love that dark combo of piano and drums, very nice. I see Adoration is the number one fan favorite on your poll, my favorite! I can't listen to that song without tears.

Un salutone a tutti i fans italiani dei cranes, scrivetemi anche solo per mandarmi un saluto. La mia opinione sui CRANES è che accompagnano in modo dolce ma cinico taluni momenti della mia vita.

I've been an avid fan of The Cranes for the last seven or so years. I was introduced to them at a time when I had become very disillusioned with the whole gothic/alternative music scene, which had become staid and devoid of any form of creativity. All the great bands of the eighties had either fizzled out into oblivion, or worse, were complacently spewing out utter trash. As for the comparitively new bands on the scene, well the less said the better! And then came Alison and co. Thank you for saving everything that was so important to the alternative culture. Thank you for you vision. Thankyou for your music.

Believe it or not, I first got into the Cranes in late 1996 after reading a favorable review of "La Tragedie D'Oreste Et Electre" in some magazine (I don't remember which anymore). It seemed like a weird and interesting cd and when I saw a single copy at an HMV I bought it. It's still one of the strangest cd's I own, but at the same time it's quite beautiful, especially "Danse D'Electre". Later on I decided to find out what they sound like in english so I bought "Loved" and was instantly blown away! It was alot different than "Tragedie" due to the loud guitars in some of the songs, but Alison's voicelets you know right away that you're listening to the Cranes, no matter what the music sounds like. I saw them play in early 97 here in Toronto after buying "Forever", "Wings Of Joy", and "Population 4", and had a great time except the acoustics in the place they played (The Opera House) were not so stellar. Also, I was hoping they would play my favorite song of theirs "Paris And Rome", but it didn't happen. Maybe next time!

I was introduced to the Cranes by a friend of a friend. My friend was driving us to a concert in which he was playing bass, and his friend popped in a tape. I heard the opening bars of Starblood and my jaw dropped. I went out the following weekend and bought a random Cranes tape (_Forever_, the newest at the time), and another the following week...and I haven't stopped collecting since. Your music and voice (well, Alison's voice, anyway) are truly beautiful, and I hope you continue to make such incredible art.
