I was first introduced to the Cranes by a good friend's Goth brother named Brandon. He thought I would like the Cranes and played Loved for me. Yes, it was indeed very beautiful, very heavenly. I no longer keep in touch with Brandon, but I have become completely enamored of the Cranes. I have all of their albums, save the Tragedie... album for it is certainly extremely difficult to acquire, especially because of my living the U.S.A. The new album, would that be Population Four? Well, Population Four is good, but not excellent. The Cranes should have stuck to their old style. I like all of their songs, nonetheless. The best songs on this particular album would be "Tangled Up," "Stalk," "Sweet Unknown," and "Brazil." My favorite album is Wings of Joy. I simply adore the Cranes! The Cranes and the Cure!

When I lived in Milwaukee attending college the local radio station WMSE played a couple tracks. I thought, hey this is cool I ought to check them out next time in the store. My ex beat me to it and loaned me Wings Of Joy. I went out and bought Forever and Loved. Hooked :-)
Liked every album except 'tragedie...' which was a little to stuffy for me.
I threw in Loved tonite and couldn't figure out the lyrics to a song so I went on the net, used Sherlock II and The Cranes Fan Club was the top listing! hehe :-) Is there a Cranes fan at Apple Computer?
Loyal fan since `94 :-)

The first time I saw Cranes... well I was watching TV and they shot a pice of "I hope" video and I got really shocked!! I went to my usual record shop and bought the "Espero" ep and the "Self non-self" album. After almost ten years Cranes still are one of my fave bands. I've seen them live 3 times only but they were one of the best moments in my life. Thanks Cranes for their wonderful and sensitive music. And thanks all the people that still love ans support Cranes all over the world.And... well I would love to meet fans of Cranes to talk and swap things.See you!

golden is the best album so far methinks -
oh, and what kind of maniac sells self-non-self, inescapable, espero and tomorrows all in vinyl, all at once, to a 2nd hand record store? i'd like to know so i can thank the crazy damn fool, since i am now the lucky owner of aformentioned albums. oh! and if anyone can help me get all the foetus remixes and maybe even l'tragedie de oreste et electre, i would be a very happy bunny indeed.

I'd love to hear the new cranes album, but I can't find it anywhere. Musicstores in Holland never have the things I want and they won't order it for me either. It's no fun living in a country like this!!Is there anybody out there who will record it for me? I really am desperate.

when i was, uh, i guess, 18 or so, i saw the video for "tomorrow's tears" on mtv and immediately fell in love with them - their haunted vision, their musicainship, their strange and beautiful quest. since that time i have remained a loyal and always-pleased fan. i met them a few times, have some pix of me with ali and all of my cd's are signed, which brings me joy. it's hard for me to know which is my fav album and which are my most loved songs, but if i HAD to choose, i'd say FOREVER for album and for songs??? hm..... starblood, adoration, cloudless, adrift, paris and rome, tangled up...god, it's hard...i just adore them. i wish them the very best.

Dear Cranes,
Saw you at the gig in Leiden, and it was like a fresh shot to a heavy addict who has been out of juice for 2 years. Shorter: I loved it !!!!! It was even 4 years ago that I last heard CLOUDLESS live; probably the only song in the world that can make me cry ! I liked the new songs you played very much. Sounded a bit more like LOVED ! Please, release the new album soon, and relieve me with your fantastic music ! Ali; you're still my number one (as are all the other cranes)! Tell Jim not to smoke when he plays guitar, it makes him frown his face in a very weird way, hahaha!!
Are you coming to Eindhoven (Effenaar) as soon as the new album is released ? Let me know; I'll be there !!!
Love ya !

Hey! Since I first heard (about six years ago) a tape from the Cranes' albums Wings of Joy and Self non Self, I am totally into Cranes. I adore Ali's voice and I just drift away on the clouds of music.
I saw Cranes some years ago in Brussels, it was like a dream come true. And Ali, you do not only sound like an angel, you even look like one!
Loved was the first album I had on CD (I love it!). Lately I thought I'd better buy the other discs too, because my tapes ares really getting old. I easily found Forever (I love this one to!) and even Wings of Joy, but it seemed that Self non Self was no longer in the Belgian catalogue! I didn't hesitate one moment to order it directely in America. Imagine I would never have it!
I also have Population Four, but that is really not my favorite album. I miss something in it, I do not really get the feeling I have with the other albums. Sorry.
Oh, by the way, this e-mail and internet-thing is my new toy at work (makes it a little less boring...), so feel free to mail anytime!

I had expressed an interest in female vocalists so a friend let me borrow the "Loved" album. That was the first time I heard Alisons beautiful voice and the amazing arrangement
of sound that the Cranes created. I have been in love ever since.
I enjoy the album population 4, but certainly not as much as the older albums. Wings of joy and Forever seem to be darker and more mellow, (which I enjoy).
I dream of seeing them live in concert some day.

I first heard the Cranes when I had been out shopping with a new girlfriend. We had stopped in at a second hand CD store and she had found the album 'Wings of Joy'. When we got home we played it on the stereo at full volume. I instantly fell in love with it and still today Wings of Joy is my favorite album. It's taken me quite some time to find the mojority of the other albums (extremely few people have heard of the Cranes here), and unfortunately I haven't found the new one anywhere yet...

I have to roll back my mind to the summer of 1992 down under the heat of Monterrey NL Mexico, it was fucking warm, 130°F in the middle of the desert, my friends and I were pretty excited to see the cure for the first time, we thought that the opening group should be just a bunch of creeps, but against for our sorprise, it was a groups called the cranes, I´ve never heard about them, it was great, since the first notes I was hipnotized, i couldn´t resist the voice that was like a little girl but with darkness of an arpy...
their records were very hard to find here in mexico, but time has fixed that problem.
3 years later (95) I have the chance to see them again, and record the gig right from the console...
about the new album it´s ok, but I am concerned because it´s very difficult to see them play live again.
with adoration loved forever...

Hail, Elf-friends!

The 11th of June was my birthday. This year I got a tape labelled "Wings of Joy" from one of my friends. From that day I am one of you.
Three months later I was at the rock festival in Waremme, Belgium. There I have seen Alison for the firs time; on this world...
I have seen her before, somewhere else... In my dreams... In the woods of Aman...

BUT That's not a story for today. I am glad to hear from you all.

Fare Well!

I love CRANES. I have all their albums except population 4.
i was a little disaapointed with population 4. I test listened
it in blockbuster music;the only good song was tangled up soi did not buy it.
There was no drums, electric guitar,or any feeling. Is this the direction the band is
heading to. Cranes did not produce population 4 themselves. Please change.
I first heard of the CRANES from my brother, "WINGS OF JOY". My favorite songs are watersong,adrift,living/breathing,lilies,starblood. I also went to a free
cranes concert in 1993 at OASIS club in SAN JOSE CA.USA. I also like
cocteau twins

I first got into Cranes through a mix tape a friend of mine from Quebec made with a few songs from Loved, which I soon after bought.. I loved the songs "reverie", "are you gone?", "come this far", and "beautiful friend", although I wasn't completely sold on the album as a whole until quite a while after I bought it. The next album I got was "Wings of Joy", which was cool but also took a while to get into, followed by the EP Collection, and my instant favorite Cranes album, Forever! I got the limited edition version of Population Four quite a while after it came out, and it's definitely not my favorite Cranes album because it is lacking the eerie atmospherics surrounding the earlier albums. "Tangled Up" is a great song, though, and the album is an interesting listen! Looking forward to new material!

Last saturday (11th sept'99) it was the first time I saw the Cranes(at Waremme,Belgium). I knew Ali's voice and her incredible music from little tapes.
A year ago I met an angel, his name was Peter.
We became lovers. He told me about his favorite band:'THE CRANES". 3 years he has been searching for a gig of the cranes in Belgium.3 weeks ago (on the 21th of august) he had a car-accident and Peter,my angel, passed away.Saturday they came. It was like a sign from Peter. He gave us an amazing concert of the cranes, not far from home. I'll never forget it:One of the happiest moments of my life, When Ali sang 'tangled up' for Peter. Thank you Ali. Because of you Peter was closer to us that night. Closer than he ever will be. Thank you for the tears... Vallie and Korneel XXX vallietje@hotmail.com

I'M THE ONLY ONE in this void called yakima that is attuned to the resonating aural beauty of the Cranes...I'm not originally from here but it makes little difference where I am...My first time (!) happened at the arena in Seattle as they opened for the Cure . Being the uninformed (ignorant?) suburbanite that I was, I believed the Cure was, like the only band in the history which was worth a damn...ENTER THE CRANES- appropriately beginning the show with "wish" (I did not make the connection until later, after I bought wings of joy, of course) I was anxious to see the Cure but was soon spellbound by the droning guitars and Allison's sweet voice... NOT BAD FOR MY FIRST CONCERT!!!
Since then, I can't seem to get enough of The Cranes, even after my interests have shifted mostly to the electronic music spectrum... A TESTAMENT TO THEIR POWER (?)

hello there! i was so happy to find this website because nobody i know has ever heard of the Cranes. i've played Loved and Forever for a few friends, but most of them just didn't understand it. i am so glad to have a way to contact other fans. anyway, i haven't heard the new album yet because their stuff is so hard to find around here. my favorite song at the present time is Beautiful Friend. when i first bought Loved, i was driving around listening to it and when Beautiful Friend came on, i started crying because it reminded me of a friend i once had. for a long time that was the song that i would listen to when i was feeling lonely and unloved, it made me feel like i was not alone in the world. thanks so much to the Cranes for bringing a bit of unearthly beauty into my life!

I got into the Cranes based on recommendation from a friend Larry who I used to work with.
I listened to a lot of Cocteau Twins and The Cure, and he said I would like the Cranes. I
didn't rush out and buy them, but a month or so later when I was in the local discount CD
store, I saw a fairly large Cranes section and decided to buy the latest (Population 4).
At first I wasn't sure, I'd never heard a voice like Alison's, but I stuck with it,
especially with track 7 Angel Bell. Later I saw a copy of Loved on sale for 10 bucks,
bought it and brought it home. Right away, I loved Shining Road and Lilies, but the real
kicker was Paris and Rome -- I still think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever
written. Needless to say, I have bought every other CD I can find... there are still some
EP's and rarities out there I don't have but I hope to find them someday. Thank you Cranes!

The first time I was SUPPOSED to listen to Cranes, was at The Cure's 1992 Wish Tour. They had a problem with customs and couldn't make it into the US. About two years later, I was listening to a local radio station in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (88.5 FM) as I was driving down I-95 and I was blown away by their song Paris and Rome. I thought it was one of the most BEAUTIFUL songs I ever heard in my whole life. I was hooked from that point on. They are without a doubt one of my favorite bands.
