I first heard the cranes in '92 opening for THE CURE.
I really did not pay any mind at first.
Then a couple of years after that I had the chance to hear
a CD called LOVED and it all bagan from there. I was hooked.
Such a great band are the CRANES. Heres to the future.

The Cranes inspires me, in body, mind, and soul. To feel emotions unknown to the rest of this cold uncaring world. They stir up emotions I was unaware I had or was even capiable of. These beautiful individuals we call The Cranes do all this with just one note from anyone of their aweinspiring songs.-Thanks...even though it doesn't seem like enough it's all I can say.

Love

I first learned about THE CRANES prior to a CURE's concert and forgot every single note except for one song that was called ADRIFT where in the end they smashed a guitar. I thought that he could have done better when using it as a gift for me but maybe they didn't know me. Later I was to a disco and they played STARBLOOD that remembered me of THE CRANES. Since both the songs I knew were good like hell, I decided to save money... And I wasn't disappointd by the slow stuff. I can always hear it when I don't know what to play next (That's a compliment to the band!).
I wish you folks out there happiness!

I first got into CRANES through an article on a magazine (I think it was "Pelo" from Argentina). The article was so damn good, that all I could do was just imagine how that sound they described was, 'cause in my local record stores they had no idea about the band's CDs. I was very influenced by the IDEA of how CRANES music could sound. That was some 8 years ago. I think I saw some video on MTV but I still was a "virgin" to tha actual sound of Cranes. This year I borrowed a tape froma friend, it was "Wings of Joy" and I'm not dissapointed. This is pure magic and Alison's voice is amazing. I didn't wait in vain after all!
So if anyone want to email me the lyrics for "Wings of Joy", it will make me very happy :-)

Bye

I actually found out about the Cranes through searching the net for the Cure websites... I don't really understand why... maybe some fated typo made me type cranes instead... and it like changed my life sorta like horoine, all i do now is listen to the Cranes and save to buy more cranes... My first Cd was the compilation, umm, i forget what its called, but then i got population four and scratched it on the first day... now track 5 is missing and i live a life of sadness... i think its time for me to quietly pout...

I first discovered the Cranes, by accident, when I was fifteen years old (in early 1993), and I purchased the latest issue of a magazine that I read frequently at the time. It came with a sampler CD, of which the first track was "Jewel." I was with a friend, and we took the CD back to his place and put it in the player. Within moments, I felt quite overwhelmed by the sound of this music and the feeling of the words and the instrumentation, and I played the track three times in a row. My friend got mad and made us listen to the rest of the CD, but once I had it home to myself, I put "Jewel" on repeat and left the player on all night. That summer, I was in a record store, and I saw a Cranes album for the first time. It was "Forever." I took it home, and that was the beginning of the last six years of Cranes madness for me. I adore "Population Four", although the three best ones for me are still "Wings of Joy", "Forever", and their rendition of the Sartre play. I will always have a soft spot for "Forever", since it was the one I came in on. All of this culminated in early 1997, when I finally had the chance to see the band live. My friend and I were right up against the stage in Denver (where I lived at the time), just to the left of Alison. The set was breathtaking, as the group performed mostly all of my favorites, including "Adoration", "Reverie", and "Jewel." I am glad to have discovered such a wonderful webpage.

A few years ago i was listening on of the local FM stations here and i heard "starblood" and i was instantly in awe. The next day i went to the store and brought "wings of joy" and the whole album was a europhic to listen to and it still is. The new album is great as well ("tangled up" and "to be" are my favs). i hope you guys come back to St. Louis real soon. You came with The Cure last time but i wasn't able to go and i really want to see you guys live. Anyways keep happy and safe.

I got into Cranes 7 years ago. I borough it from a friend of mine and since then I never stopped listening to them. I listen to Cranes almost every day. I have got some cassett in my car and I love driving while listening to them. It's really relaxing. My favourite album is 'Wings of Joy'.
Anyway, I would love to see them but they have never come to Portugal. I know it is a tiny country but it is really beautiful and you have lots of fans here.
Best wishes from Paula

Two years ago a friend of mine intoduced me to one of the members in Cranes, at "So what"
in Oslo. I`d heard from him and my bestfriend, Irene, that they were a great band. I am a very
great Cure fan, and Cranes is now a particular part of my life. "Stalk" and "Lilies" means
something special to me.
I hope you visit Norway soon... Keep on playing.
Love from Norway, Kristiansand and Linn!

i first heard of the cranes from an interview with robert smith. so, i decided to check it out as others really like the cranes. when i heard 'everywhere' my heart stopped at the beauty in the instruments. and it went on until i heard her voice. i was completely taken away by her voice. it is wonderful. from then on i've been a great huge fam of theirs. i finally got to see them live whn they came to dallas march of '97. and i hae the great pleaseure of meeting the entire band. alison was very nice and actually went to get james for me. perfect band, really. they are like a dream....a dream inside a pale blue sky.

i first bought a cranes cd from a secondhand stall in my first
year at university (shining road e.p.) it was only a quid. went
home, stuck it on, and that was it. i was spellbound to the sound
(that wasn't supposed to rhyme): it was powerful yet full of beauty.
the rest of the people in my hall had to put up with this cd playing
loudly and constantly for quite some time afterwards. since then i've
bought nearly all cranes cds (still having difficulty getting hold of
"la tragedie.." though (can anybody help me out?)).

i met Cranes with The Cure during the Europe Tour when i was living in Switzerland, and i love them since then, I'm a big fan of Cure, and i was New Wave, not anymore but i still feeling the same. The problem now is since i'm living in Sydney (Australia), i've got no news from them, and its really difficult to find their new album , the last one i have is "Loved", and thats it. i miss them a lot. But i just want to say that it will be great if they would come here in Sydney for a festival or concerts.
If someone can help me to find this new release, it will be great. Thanks.

I first heard ot the Cranes in January 1992. Still remember looking everwhere for Wings Of Joy, and not being able to find it. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the concert hall to see The Cure, and saw the Cranes merchandise everywhere. I had NO idea they were opening for the Cure! Anyway, that was the first time I saw the Cranes. The second time I saw them was in Atlanta the masquerade) in 1995 right before Valentines day. Allison was just walking around in the club, and seemed really nice. I've had several of their eps and singles like Espero, and the Jewel 7", which I let foolishly slip through my hands....and into the hands of someone TOTALLY undeserving. (I hope you see this you stupid FUCK!)

Anyway, I was wondering what they're up to now? Haven't heard any news or anything in what seems like AGES! I was starting to think they had broken up. Have they? Somebody e-mail w/ some info please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I first heard the Cranes about the time they were touring with the Cure (although unfortunately i didn't actually attend a show myself). At first the haunting melodies of Wings of Joy and child-like voice of Alison kinda freaked me out, but soon I found myself seduced by it, and I have been a fan ever since. My biggest problem though was the same one that I think every Cranes fan had... what were the lyrics? I read several people's interpretations of Cranes song lyrics and they were never anything close to my own. Needless to say, as soon as i heard about the offer for the lyric book i was psyched! Then when i received it and saw that alison had signed it herself... my heart melted! My biggest regret is that i have yet to see them in person. I can guarantee that i'll be there next time they tour the states. Well, that's my story, hope it wasn't too cheesy.

The Cranes opened up for the Cure on the Wish tour at the skydome. I had never heard of the Cranes before that point. They completely stole the show. They blew the Cure right out of the water.

I first got into the Cranes when I was about twelve, I stole some of my brother's CDs, two happened to be Loved and Forever. I've been listening to them pretty solidly ever since. I always knew they were pretty obscure in the UK at least, but looking on the net there's a lot more than I ever realised. They're fantastic when you're down, or just in general. I'm off to find out more about those albums I never new existed . . .

i was only 16 years old when i first heard the cranes. i was actually in a clinic being treated for depression. a friend of mine in there had played one of their albums for me and let me borrow them for a few days although that was against the rules. :) i found solace in the music and alison's voice though it sounds young, is actually very enchanting. the cranes have probably been the BEST band i've ever been introduced to, up there with pink floyd and tori amos, but still ranking number one alwayz.

Alicia - I'd have to go home and check to be sure but I think the tracks I have are Slide and Starblood. Slide came with a free 12" given away with limited copies of 'Forever' on vinyl in the UK (the CD had The Puppet and Shine Like Stars). Starblood, as you know is on Wings of Joy. Did anybody who got the LP of W.O.J get a 12" with a Starblood remix on it? It was supposed to have that and self-non-self but I got s-n-s on both sides? What is the meaning of that? Does a Starblood remix exist? That would be cool.
