Hi there,
just found this site. Not bad either. Having been a fan of the Cranes for years, I thought you ought to know about something else you might like - 'Waterglass'. They're based in London and have that Cranes / Cocteaus quirkiness. I'm not too sure the best way to find them, but Sam-Sam raves about them at Check them out. You'll love them (honest!).
looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Eulad
I know the perfect way for you to get hooked up with a luverly girl. Go to see any band of choice (preferably Cranes as that would mean you bought a ticket and helped them on their way to multimillionaire-dom).
Walk up to any old girl in the house (not Miss Shaw) and ask her some subtle questions in the following fashion:
Wanna get married? or the extremely succesfull I love your eyes. Can't go wrong there. If you do, just hop on a rocket to mars.

Hi, your website is really cool. I got into the crane from my brother and my favorite song is "shining road."

I discovered Cranes' existance circa 95. A great friend of mine recorded me their Loved album... Till the first heard I felt in love with their music (ehy guys there's not Alyson voice!). After that I bought everything from them (although I'm still looking for some EPs. May someone help me?). I used (and still use) to listen crust and grind. My musical research make me find another fantastic band: NEUROSIS. After listening to them I realised i was ready to flow toward other sounds. Til now I'm a lot into both sad and angry music. I guess i do not have "barriers" anymore... After several listenings both Cranes and Neurosis are still my favorite bands 'cause they are unique and very "deep".
By the way I don't think the latest album was cool. I didn't liked some songs there and I was doubtful about their future. HOPEFULLY i discovered they quitted their label and will produce their new album by themselves (subscribe guys!). This fact show to everybody how much Cranes is a band of a cool guys with a cool attitude.
So c'mon Cranes we love you!
I'm listening to "Perfect World" and it's fantastic...
Do you know where i can buy it as i never see it before?

Write me if you want! I understand English, Italian and quite French...
Cheers Ank

Hard pressed to find many fans here in "Zion" so finding comfort in having found this site. As were the were the majority of the guys in this book i too am taken with Ali.

Hello! I heard the Cranes for the first time back in 1991, it sounds to dark for me at that time, but when I heard "starblood" I fell for the band and I love it, since then I am a really, really happy-sad-complete human been. I am a fan of The Cure and Cranes (the best two bands in the world) I turn into a musician because them.

If you are a Cure or Cranes fan, feel free to mail me at
If you live in my city, just do it.
See you around.....
*curious note: all cure fans are cranes fans too.

I first heard of Cranes by some guy I was "stalking". He was wearing a cranes shirt. Well, I didn't know what it was, so I kind of ignored it. About a year later, I was reading posts on Rasputina's page, and it mentioned Cranes. I remebered hearing of them before, so I went to CDNow to hear some stuff. I went to Circuit City and bought Loved, Forever, and Population Four. I had found Self-non-self at Borders. I still cannot find Wings of Joy, however. I really like that song Wish.

Geeeeeez... I just found this site! Can't believe it's been around for so long without me even knowing it. Hmmm, glad to see there aren't (many) psycho stalker types leaving messages here. That's what most fan pages consist of. I guess Cranes fans are just in a higher league. Ho hum. It's raining (obviously, I live in Seattle). Oh, there are questions!... I got in to Cranes from watching the chart show (that crappy old Sat morning thing on ITV) they used to have an Indie chart. I heard about five seconds of 'Adoration' and RUSHED out to buy it. Never heard anything like it! I'm serious; five seconds to entire back catalogue in a matter of days! It's still my fave Cranes song, maybe out of sentimentality, maybe out of its genius; who can say. I have actually lost count of how many times I've seen Cranes live but my fave gig was a really small affair in Islington quite a few years ago - sound was a bit shitty but they played all my fave songs that were around at the time. "population four" is by far the best thing Cranes have done since "wings of Joy". Have to admit I thought they went downhill a bit around the time of "loved" (but accept that this is where they were at that time) and nearly didn't buy "pop4" on that strength. Oh how crazy I would have been! Be seeing you.....

If this is some kind of sick joke then it's not very funny. If it isn't... aaagh, god, you've got it all wrong. I'm in no position to give advice (note my e-mail address) and there are obvious limits to what we can do here but this isn't really the place to be dealing with our emotional problems. Do the band deserve this? j - Karen's e-mail address worked for me (I think)... try it again.

I agree with Renata. Life is terrible and the Cranes and the Cure and Siouxsie make it better. But not better enough. Tonight I will listen to the Cranes as I end myself knowing I go to a better place and take the Cranes music with me.

Hi! I first heard Alisons beautiful voice on a Norwegian radio programme called "Roxrevyen" That was in 93, it was a recording of a Cranes concert in Oslo that same year. I instantly got hooked, and went out and bought me Wings of Joy. That however, was a difficult task. I went from musicstore to musicstore without any luck... I had to get the clerk in one to order the album for me. When i finally got it is was over-joyed! The recent years it seems that a increasingly growing number of people here in Norway are getting their eyes open for the lovely and spescial sound of the Cranes. It is good to see that I`m not the only one addicted here... Does anybody know if Cranes are visiting Norway soon??? I missed their last concert here in Bergen, and that is a mistake never to be done again!!!

The first time I listened to the cranes was when I was 14 yrears old, and I fell in love. I love both the Cranes and the Cure! When I first heard of the Cranes I went out to but their cd, and ended up driving for an entire day to but it, but it was worth it. My favorite song is beautiful friend. I never knew there were so many fans out there. It is good to know that there are people out there that can relate to the reason why I Love the Cranes. The only thing is that I would love to see them in concert, can anyone tell me if they will come to california to the bay area any time soon?

Well, I got into the cranes about 9 years ago and the first time I fell in love with the screaming guitar and the voice of Alison Shaw, and not to forget the drumming of her brother Jim Shaw. As I type this comment I am hearing the head bashing song Starblood. What a lovely song. Once, when I was 12 years old I wrote the Cranes and told them that I was in love with Alison, and Mark wrote back and said "Don't flatter yourself Alison is a hard woman to dill with, she is always in control. And somehow I believe him. I would love to see them on a stage sometimes "I will some day." Alison if you ever read this comment I have lost love for you as a girlfriend but not as a musican and artist. -Greg-

I am a gothic girl and I know Cranes since two years. I love The Cure, so, reading an interview to Robert Smith, I read for the first time their name. I think Cranes are great, I love any sound they play, any word that Allison sing with her angel's voice, they make me feel very strange and very good.

i heard you might be a good person to ask about how i might get my grubby hands on some cranes videos. i never even knew there were any such things. which was good in a way cuz i made them up in my head. anyway if you'd (or anyone else reading this)be so kind as to someday get back to me about how i might purchase some videos, that would be super.

and why do people consider cranes music so dark? i've always thought it so hopeful.

I was listening to cranes when I was shopping in one of our local record stores, they were playing the ep collection and I was so awed by alison's voice! i had to find out who this band was...and so they told me and I bought the album. It was the best financial decision i ever made.

I got into the Cranes from seeing them within the movie An Eye For An Eye with Sally Field
The crazy killer guy played by Keifer Sutherland is a big Crane fan in the film, he's got MTV blasting on his TV and its a Crane Video...and Alison is singing the song Shining Road on train tracks or something. In real life i don't think MTV has ever played a Crane Video...Hey Cranes send over some music videos to the MTV so they can play them
