Allison is the most enchanting woman ever. I have loved Cranes for many years and have trouble finding people who can relate in Denver. Jenny Loves you Lilly!
I found the Cranes album at Wax Trax when I was browsing for music. It is real hard to find Cranes stuff in Denver. COME TO DENVER and spread bright lights in my whom. ******

Good Morning everyone!
Like a lot of fans, I was first introduced to the Cranes' gorgeous music during The Cure's '92 tour. From that moment on it was love at first sight. I have been to both of their shows here in Arizona, and have been fortunate to meet the band during the last tour. You guys are the nicest AND friendliest band I have ever met, even nicer than L7! (If Ali or any of the guys are reading this, I want to apologize for being a bother. I was the one who was asking you all to autograph all of my CD covers and everything else I had. Forgive me.) My favorite Cranes Song: STARBLOOD!!! As for Population 4, I think it is great. It may not be as dark as Self or Wings, but it is great nonetheless. So whenever you guys tour again, don't forget us here in dusty ol' AZ. You are always welcome! Thank you Guestbook for allowing me some space.
Love & Kisses to you all...

When I was in college I fell in love with a strange and beautiful girl
that I worshipped from afar, never imagining that we would in fact become
lovers, though we did. At the time, my musical taste was limited to the
most typical USA college male fair -- Led Zepp., Jimi Hendrix etc.
This girl was such a shock to my system -- intelligent and imaginative, and
other-worldly in her distant gaze, like the moonlight on an ice crystal.
While with her one night in a stark UpState New York apartment, above the
street where the crack dealers shouted all night, lighted by candles and
glow of a light-up Virgin Mary statue we abandoned ourselves to each other
in a swirling blend of passion, fear, escape, confusion and even love.
Wings of Joy was playing loud enough to drown out the shouts of the crack dealers.
This was the first time I had ever heard music like this, and it was so
perfect to the moment.
Now my life has changed radically again, and if you saw me you would likely
not figure me for a cranes fan, but I am. I am married (to someone else)
and work in an office, have short hair (how did that happen?) and do Tai Chi
every day, but still there are moments when I must listen to the cranes
and recall the feelings of earlier years, the turnmoil within, the beauty
of the chaos and sorrow. cranes music resides within me always.
And Cathy, if you ever read this, so do you...
Keep Loving, Everyone!

¡Hola! my history beigings when I was in a friend's house he was listening "Forever" and simply I was by always pledged with its music.
It is not possible to explain what it's music means for as a melancholic person as I, is like the echo of my feelings and my sadder and also, happier thoughts, its songs I feel them until the core.
It enchants knowledge to me that Cranes is not a commercial group that only selected people loved them, but for other part, their CD's aren´t easy for buy just in few stores in México... When will you come? Please come for the next "Festival Cervantino" in Guanajuato!, I think is the perfect scenary for your music, please, DON'T FORGET US!!!!

About three years ago a a friend of mine gave me a the tape loved, wich he had bought on a concert. After getting used to a sound I had never heard before I fall in love with the music Cranes make. Unfortunately I have never seen them preform. I'm not really up to date with their touring information. So if anyother Cranes fans know more than I do, please mail me.

The first album that I ever heard by The Cranes was "Wings of Joy" I fell in love with "Tomorrows Tears" and another song on the same album that I cannot remember the name of right now. I was about 16 or 17 and I was just getting into bands like The Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. Alison's voice sends chills up your spine, especially when it is coupled with the harder-edged guitars. But she can also sound almost angelic at times and then almost scary at other times. I think that is why I like The Cranes so much is because they are ORIGINAL! That is a word that scarcely applies to American Underground music. I just hope that The Cranes keep on making hauntingly beautiful music that is exclusively thiers for many years to come!

The first time i heard the Cranes, it was love on the first site. My boyfriend hated them, and so did most of my friends. To hell with them, i thought and i started buying all the records of the Cranes. I was 14 years old then, now i am 22 and i still love them. However, i do think that "Population 4" is a bit too sweet and soft. I personally think that the Cranes just stay to nice and soft sometimes, i would like to see Alison really get out of hereself, sometimes it seems like she is playing the little nice girl. I like the other records (like loved and wings of joy) much more. And Jim, i think, is great! I wonder weather he has made any music with other bands? Anyway, the Cranes are beautiful! They really know how to go deep into the soul of life! And Alison, you have a beautiful voice, but i wonder: Can it screem to?

Six years ago I was listening to the radio, and I heard a fragment of Adrift.
I've been crazy for the cranes ever since! I'm only sorry that I missed them that first
time, I have only ever seen them once (March 1997)and the sound system at the Opera House
is not very good. The band still blew me away. Thank you for a gorgeous night!
XOXO to the band and the fans.

i was lucky as i had gona on a trip to minneapolis, minnesota only
maybe a week after tickets for the cure's wish tour had gone on sale.
after being a fan of the cure for three years(i was 17 in 1992), i was
extremely excited to have this opportunity to see them. it was an eight
hour trip to the show, which in effeat, was the most amazing show
that i have ever seen. however at the time, i had not been exposed to
the cranes as canada has never really grasped on to them. let me say
however, that they were the perfect opening band for the most perfect
band on earth. since my return to canada, i immeadiately found "wings
of joy" album and have been impressed with the other releases since

i started getting interested in the cranes after i heard one of their songs, i think it was "clear", off of the forever album. i just fell so in love with it - especially alison shaw's voice- so scary!!!! i've always had an affinity for dark, noisy, heavy sounds juxtaposed with serene, beautiful sounds...the cranes definately embody that aesthetic. however, i am sorry to say that i wasn't too thrilled with the new album. it just didn't have the beauty aforementioned. the songs are dull, uninspiring, and bland....i think that the cranes are capable of much more and beyond. i think that they were just having a lax songwriting period (shame on you jimmy and allison!!! i still love you!!). even if the cranes never made another record again i think they have left an indelible impact on my life, of which music is a big part. i am in a punk rock/goth band myself (i don't prefer labels, but that's the only way i can describe it to you). i try to write fresh and original material, but for some unknown reason i always hear a cranes song in the back of my head: scary, simplistic (yet complicated), beautiful (yet ugly), and bewildering. jimmy and alison (as well as the rest of the cranes)- thank you for the wonderful music...it really changed my life!!!

I first heard the song "Everywhere" on a radio station, (WKQX Q101 Chicago) several years
ago. I fell in absolute love with the sound and I searched for the CD for many years.
Finally I found it at a little independent record store in Westport Missouri. I didn't
think that the Cranes were this well known! But I continue to fall asleep every night to
the soothing melodic sounds of the album "Forever" I'd love to see the Cranes live
sometime and if anyone has the heart to read this than could you please email me and tell
me when the next Cranes concert around Chicago is? This is February 16, 1999. I may not
have followed up with all the latest news and such like all the "faithful" fans did,
I have never been to one of the Cranes' shows but they are one of my favorite bands.
I hold such high respect for this band because they aren't commercialized or anything
absolutely no one I've ever met has ever heard of them. That's awesome. I love keeping
things this good a secret.....

Was disappointed by the cancellation of the Slowdive/Cranes tour that was supposed to take placeI believe in the Fall of '91, but was extremely content with seeing them with the Cure in Chicago. It's to bad i got caught trying to audio tape the show. Luckily the staff was cool and only took the tape. i realize the lyric book is out, but what about a new album besides the singles comp. Please someone let me know!!

i first saw the cranes open for the cure's wish tour'92. at the time, i got them confused with the swans, i had heard swans before, but not the cranes. after the show, obviously i was less confused. i felt like i was one of the few cure fans who really adored the cranes at that show, most of the people i talked too had a big problem with them. but then again , i was also listening to at the time a lot of kate bush, sonic youth, nick cave and the bad seeds, and danielle dax. whoo knows what the people i talked to were listening too.
i travelled 300 miles to see the cranes & rasputina (who i also love, and had already seen them earlier in the year) in detroit at saint andrews hall in '97. fortunately i have freinds in a band in detroit, caelum bliss, so i had somewhere to stay.
my favorite cranes songs: lilies, angel bell, cloudless, heaven or bliss, tomorrow's tears, paris & rome, beautful friend, can't get free, jewel.... so many. i have always liked the fact that the lyrics are hard to decipher, its always like the songs come from a drowning dream, submerged and from somewhere deep in the ocean.

The cranes are pretty damn good. Introduced by means a forceful nature, but ever since been a loyal fan.
Lillies and Shining Road have got to be the favourites, and
Population 4 isn't that bad either. What I'd REALLY like to know is
some tour dates, so e-mail me.. o.k? Please?

well the cranes.....mmmh. my sister first heard them opening for a cure concert (back in the day) that must have been quite some time i would have to say SIX years ago. and i did listen to them as she would play the cds. for instance, while listening to them now after those years, i have most of the lyrics memorized! but at this moment in time (six years later) i must say i have a deep admiration for them, truely. so thankfully there are people that like such great music. for you keep on listening to the bands you like...love.

Cranes aren't 'a bird', they are a big piece of machinery for lifting heavy objects.
Portsmouth (where they live) is a dockyard town. When entering the City (from over a hill) the first
thing you see are loads of Cranes sticking up into the sky.....
Machine, not bird....

I first saw Cranes opening for the cure in 1992 in rotterdam; after that I spent at least 3 weeks looking for any recordings by The Cranes at all recordshops in my neighbourhood. At last I found 'Wings of Joy' (special edition' including 'Self-non-Self: oh yes !!)
Since then I ordered every new album before it even got out.
My favourite cranes-song is 'Cloudless' , it was of great comfort to me during the last 3 heartaches I've suffered. (even though I don't know what it's about, so I'll check out the lyrics-book)
I'm looking forward to the folluw-up of 'Population-4', but most of all to some new tour-dates near me (Effenaar-Eindhoven).
Alison; I love you and your angel-like voice, so please keep singing to all of us FOREVER !

The Cranes never cease to cheer me up.I do how evr prefer the earlier music to Population Four, but that's just my ever so humble opinion.....

Thankyou so much for you prompt response. I have received the lyric book 2 days before my girlfriends birthday and when she opened it up and saw that you (jim) and Alison wrote "Happy Birthday". She Flipped! I thankyou so much for taking the time to do this. It has made her very happy and everytime I walk into our apartment she is playing one of your albums. Thanks again and I REALLY hope everything works out with the new album. By selling your "Till the Stars Shine" book, you have brought yourselves closer with your fans which will will benefit you.
